Perhaps not a main answer to your questions but keep in mind (or get it as 
new information) that you have about 2^46 local self defineable IPv6 
addresses per subnet available. With an IPv6-enabled Apache it's possible 
to bind each virtual host on its own IPv6 address i.e.
www1.domain1.com : routingprefix:0:0:0:1
www2.domain1.com : routingprefix:0:0:0:2
a.s.o.

only thing is that DNS is well defined for IPv6 addresses.

Therefore IPless virtual hosting is no longer necessary on IPv6 (good for 
SSL!).
