I would not count on that message meaning ANYTHING other that the
manufacturer does not want to debug 3rd party batteries.

This is the manufacturers way of pushing you to their typically more
expensive batteries.

And I installed a new battery a few years ago, and the first few times
it would not charge to 100% (stopped well short) and then for no
obvious reason it started charging full.

And no telling how the electronics tells the %, if it is doing some
sort of charge/current counting then putting in a larger battery may
confuse the software until it re-calibrates with the new battery.
