Actually you don't need install Cygwin, its package is so large and I can guarantee 99% of its functionality won't be used in all of our life. Alternatively, you just need install Xcrysden in the account of superconducting center or cluster, and then install a X-windows in your windows 8.1 (please google it and you will find many tools).
