I have done that and it works fine. I wonder if this duplication of
efforts could/should be eliminated.
For the record, the kmod update hung my wife's laptop. The failure
required I add a kernel argument so I could get a prompt and delete the
xorg.conf. I am back to your dkms on the laptop and things are working
fine again.
