Hi Scott,

Nice article!

Yes, I will be scanning and printing with an all-in-one device. Yesterday, I was installing an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 all-in-one. I compiled the hplip source code using these instructions:

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/centos.html

All printing and scanning functions appear to work perfectly on the 8500. However, for SANE to work with the scanner I had to change the DeviceURI in /etc/cups/printers.conf from a "socket" type to a "hp" type using "hp-makeuri <ip address>".

FYI,

Gordon

Hi Dag,

I have another CentOS 5.5 office machine which will need a current
version of hplip sometime soon at which time I will try your package out
and I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for your prompt reply!

It would be nice if you post the results, especially if you do scanning
with an all-in-one--as you probably noted, the article to which you
linked (which I wrote) :), mentioned that as of July, the hplip rpm
didn't work with my particular scanner--it provided a print driver, but
the machine wouldn't scan.
