I think this confusion stems from the announcement of MyFaces 1.1.2 release:

The wording used here can be interpreted to mean that any version of
either 1.1.2 or greater is interchangeable with the other, version 1.1.2
or greater. Someone with that interpretation would certainly think Core
1.1.3 would work with Tomahawk 1.1.2. I made this same mistake, initially.
Now that I examine the wording more closely, it seems to indicate the
following:
Core 1.1.2 works with Tomahawk 1.1.2
Core 1.1.2(and greater) works with Tomahawk 1.1.3(and greater)
Is that correct? Do you really need Core 1.1.3 to be interoperable with
newer Tomahawks?
Of course the easiest thing would be to just update to 1.1.3 or higher
for both, where there is no debate as to interoperability. Unfortunately
for some of us, the "show-stopper" bug in Tomahawk 1.1.3 leaves us
waiting for 1.1.4 to be officially released. We can't all be on the
bleeding-edge! ;)

Before 1.1.3, versions must match.
With 1.1.3 and afterward, core and tomahawk AFTER 1.1.3 can be mixed
and matched.
