I recently did away with MS and have converted to Linux and OpenOffice. I
am trying to print Avery 8160 labels from the word processor. I have a
template .doc which I called up and tryed mail merge but have not been
able to figure out how to print more than one name per page. The labels
are 3 across and 10 down. I used to use Avery Label pro or Publisher to
do this. Can I do it in OpenOffice or is there another product that I can
use. Scribus does not have the mail/merge option.
Thanks in advance for any help!
When you do File->New->Labels, you get a dialog with three tabs. On the
third tab, you should see a radio box for "Entire Page", and a
checkbox "Synchronize Contents" Both of these should be selected. This
will give you a page of labels, but you can only edit the first one at
the top, left, which is the master label. Whatever you put in it,
including formatting, will be propagated into the rest of the page when
you click the floating "Synchronize Labels" button.
This is useful when you want to print labels from a datasource or when
you want a page full of identical labels.
If you need more help, just ask.

Matt thanks for the help but I'm still having a problem. I create the label
as you suggested, select the field from the first tab, I get the full page
with the same fields on each label. I get a window that says synronize
labels, click OK, screen flashes but I cannot close the box afterwards.
By "box" I assume you mean the floating button. It should not close.
When I go to print I get a sheet with all the fields not the names and
addresses. The mail merge function is greyed out but I asssume I don't use
it for labels.
I'm going to guess here. Do you have the DataSource Explorer visible
(F4)? When it's visible, navigate to the datasource for your labels,
then select a few records, and click the Data to Fields icon on the
DataSources toolbar (near the right side). If your fields in the labels
are defined correctly, they should fill with the data you selected.
This is how I test my labels to see if they are getting data correctly,
without printing.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I am using a OO spreadsheet as the data
source.
Thanks again!!
Matt
