I hate replying to my own messages but I had to run with the last one.
What I couldn't say is that I think that we are talking apples and
oranges. I was referring to formatting styles whilst, on further
thought, you have been referring to AutoLayout styles. You can create
new styles for the former but not for the latter so I must  give up my
part of the discussion.
