I cheat! I dual boot with Linux. That way I can run a script that copies my whole C: drive or D: drive (as an image, file by file) . To Linux, it's just a hunk of disk - no problem.

On the Windoze side, Mozilla has to store the mail (along with control files, etc.) in a directory somewhere (I can't reboot to look right now). Just zip it up and write it to another disk, cdrom, or flash drive (and keep more than one version in case you discover a problem that may have existed before you made your last backup.)

that is the problem, you never know when it can happen. So you figured out
yet how to back up ? Someone suggested Mozbackup but that is discontinued
and it only backs up your profile, not your emails.

Ouch! That's really a pain. It's happened to me using OE, but, so far,
using Mozilla for almost 2 years with no problems.

Don't know your answer, but please check out Thunderbird
(www.mozilla.org) or mozilla, itself. They do just about everything
Lookout Express does and quite a bit more, including a spell check.
And, since they're not M$, they don't have the same vulnerabilities that
viruses, etc. are looking for.

Outlook express spellchecker only works with office installed. Is there
