My solution works for me, I am sure that if I set up a page to the dimentions of a c4 envelope, 1/3 a4 roughly, it would work just as well, it's about trial and error, and working out how to do things,
My solution works fine for my needs at the moment, if I need to print on A5 (1/2 a4) then it's simple, enough to adust. Incedently I am not using envelope printing software within OOo, just printing as I would on to A4 paper, but sticking an envelope in instead.

Just to add to this, I have A4 size envelopes, If I want to print an address on the actual envelope, I do the followingI must be missing something here! Granted that OO.o is not the world's best program when it comes to handling envelopes, what's the problem with printing a suitable label as and when necessary? I find that the transparent Avery J8560 gives acceptable results on most envelopes, particularly when the envelope orientation bug periodically surfaces in a release of OO.o.
1. set the page orientation to landscape
2. type the address in the centre of the document using centre align tool
3. use page preview to check it's in the middle of the envelope
4. put the envelope in the sheet feeder
5. print the document
I then have the address printed in the middle center of the envelope, and it looks much better than writing by hand.
