Sorry, but I think you are missing the point here. The original query (as evidenced by the message subject) was about printing what OpenOffice calls a brochure. And the way that OpenOffice works (at least, how the current version 2.4.1 works on Windows) is that you print a brochure by setting the *page* orientation (in Format | Page... | Page) to portrait but the *paper* orientation (in File | Printer Settings...) to landscape. So you do need both.
