It does work in StarOffice 9 (OOo 3.0 equivalent), so please be sure to add a comment that it doesn't work with openSUSE either. Note that the bug has been opened for 10 days, *and* a comment also left on http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/pdfimport but Sun has yet to acknowledge the OOo problem or assigned it to anyone.
