just a quick one... is there a way to set writer to always insert dates
(or other fields for that matter) in a specific format. Using
Insert>Fields>Date always chooses 11/13/08 as the format, and one would
have to change it if they don't want that formatting. Can this be done
other than through Insert>Fields>Other?
As far as I know Writer takes its instructions in this area from your
Operating System's "Locale" settings. On Windows XP they're at Control
Panel>Regional and Language Options>Regional Options> and then set Short
Date & Long Date to your preferred formats. Other versions of Windows have
similar settable options in Control Panel but I can't quote chapter and
verse.
I don't know where the equivalent settings are for *nix or Mac but I'm
pretty sure they exist somewhere :-)
This does not work for me. Since Windows 95 I have set my own date
formats in Regional and Language Options. OpenOffice.org 1.x--3.0 has
always ignored my settings. Most applications behave this way, and it
is quite annoying. Why can’t OOo look in the Registry to use whatever
date and time formats the logged-in user prefers (unless another format
is specified in the document)?
