Forgot to add that this is OOo 2.4.1 on Hardy x86_64. 

Also I get the same results when printing to HP Laserjet 4+, 4M+
(PostScript version), 5Si, and 5SiMX (PostScript version); that is,
four different drivers to two different printers. The PostScript
versions are genuine Adobe.
