How do I get OpenOffice Writer 3.0.0 to open Microsoft Works 7.0 (.wps) files.
The simple answer is that you don't.
I can't find anything in the Writer "filter selection" that works.
That's because there isn't.
Can you return to your copy of Works or borrow someone else's
installation or ask your correspondent to do so (as appropriate)? If
so, you can save the document from Works directly in Microsoft Word
(.doc) format - and OpenOffice can open and use that.
If not, there may be a neat workaround. Are you using Windows? (You
kept that bit a secret!) If so, download and install the free viewer
for Microsoft Word document files from the Microsoft web site. Open
your Works file in this. (It accepts Works files.) Select all the
text and copy-and-paste it directly into a new OpenOffice Writer
document. This will preserve most of the formatting, at least.
I trust this helps.
