Well Tim,
Based on my experience so far I cannot imagine trying to do my business on OOO3. I created a data base. Moved some of my files into it and I still can't select random files and then view only those files. I had a more useful data base on a VIC 20,, like 30 years ago. Davi

I have done what you want over the years, but the task is specific to your
data and record needs. There are no one solution fits all. There are whole
courses in what you want created in this email.

Please, find someone in your area (Texas?). I am in New York state.
Sorry.

I remember the good old days as well.
I was a computer programmer for room-sized main-frame DEC and IBM computers.

I have never used Base in any large work. The last time I needed a big
database, I wrote it in COBOL, which included most everything you
would need in record sorting and viewing.

It is all in the "programming". OOo can do the database work for most
small businesses, according to the documentation I have seen. If MS
Office can do it, then OOo will do it as well. You just have to read the
documents that are available and go from there. OR, you can find someone
that will do it for you. To be honest, after my last stroke, I no longer to heavy end projects. I still
would setup simple databases [which I have 2 years ago] using OOo 2.x.
I setup the data entry and simple record search and display. Simple is
relative to what people want. I know people who spent 3 months to figure
out how to one complex search/display routine in MS Office's system. Oracle
is for the companies that have 1000's of dollars to use on the database system.
SO, your choices for databases are spending a lot of money for Oracle/MS, or
you can use OOo.
I learned most of my database work from documents for the products, and the
samples that come with books. My format training was in Mainframe and PC
programming, plus networking.

So please do not single me out as someone who should know how to do things.
I know some specifics that I have come across solutions for. I am sorry if
I do not know all or seem to "Act" that way. I have questions like everyone
else here.
