I decided that if I can install it via Synaptic it might solve some of the problems, or at least it is worth a try. So I opened Synaptic and noted that there were 34 packages for 3.0, plus 11 more 3.0 packages marked "brand modules," whatever those are. I tried to do just a reinstall, but reinstall was not an option. Probably that is because they were installed outside of Synaptic. So I just uninstalled all of them. Then I added the above repositories and reloaded the repository list. Afterwards I no longer have an of the 3.0 packages listed in the main section of Synaptic, but there are 34 packages of 2.4.1 listed as upgradable to 3.0. I don't want to upgrade because that would replace my 2.4.1. Considering the problems I am having with 3.0 I need to keep 2.4.1.
