I just installed 3.0.1 on my Vista machine. Did not require a reboot. I have not found where it left the unpacked folder. It should have been placed on the desktop, but the only folder is for the m9 build. I then installed the Dev300 m40, after first uninstalling the m35. It kept telling me I had a newer version already installed. After the uninstall of the older dev version, the newer one installed without incident. It too did not require a reboot when finished. Maybe an XP quirk. My XP system is still dead, so I can't try it there.
I've never had a DEV need a reboot after installation, only the RCs and final release. Interesting that you didn't need to reboot a final release on Vista. Also perhaps it depends on what's been on the machine before or is also on the machine? I must admit I don't usually pay much attention to installation details...
Later today I'll be installing 3.0.1 on a WinXP machine which has 3.0.0 on it already. I'll make a note of whether I have to reboot this time.
