Another data point: I just installed 3.0.1 on a WinXP machine
that had 3.0 installed, and it did NOT ask me to reboot. I
also used the without-JRE version. Same build info as yours.
Hmm, let's see, this is WinXPProSP3 (can't recall if we've
mentioned which SP before).
Same here: MS WinXPPro Version 2002 SP3. No clue. Just for
grins I'm going to do the same on another identical system.
Second machine required no reboot. Heck if I know what the
difference might have been. This second on had
OOO300m8(Build:9357) on it & the install appeared as normal (user
dialog etc).
Today, I installed it on XP SP3 and it said I had to reboot to
start using the new version.
A few minutes ago I installed OOo3.0.1 on a third machine (this one
running WinXP Home SP3) and this time I had to reboot. OOo3.0.0 had
been previously installed.
Using XP Pro SP3 and Win2K I did *NOT* have to reboot either. Possible
significant pointers were:
1) non-Java version
2) Un-installed 3.0.0 first
3) The pre-installed Java version was 1.6.0_11
From the above the problem appears to be related to Java and quite
likely the version of the same. The version bundled with OOo 3.0.1 is
significantly older - I think it is 1.6.0_7 - and there may be a
conflict provoking the reboot request.
Whatever the cause, the above procedure would appear to be fireproof. :-)
