That drove me crazy when I first started using formulas in tables. The
secret is the line height setting. With the cursor in the cell, go to
Format > Paragraph > Indents and set the line to Single. (I normally
use a fixed line height.) Once you set it to Single the cell will
expand as necessary for the formula.
