Exactly so: there is no disagreement about that. You are there setting the time for which each page/slide is displayed in automatic mode. (As I said, I do not see why that doesn't work for you. It should.)

Also exactly so. Those settings are for the complete slideshow, not for individual pages (or pages collectively). So they include the pause between shows but not the duration of each slide.
I can accept that the "duration of pause" setting refers to the pause between slide shows, rather than the more intuitive pause between slides, ...
There is no "pause between slides", of course.
