The difference between this and a word processor is expected and must be learned as were your original word processing skills. Your original post stated you could not create text boxes to type or copy and paste into. If this is still the case then you may have a defective program. But it could also be that you do not have the full learning required. I would: A. Download the manual for Impress and have a good read. http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors2/index.html B.
