Here's an interesting thing.
I was sent a Microsoft Works Document today.
Open Office 3.1 on Ubuntu 9.04 will open it instantly on double-clicking
on it, although the graphics in it had to be re-done.
Open Office 3.1 on WINDOWS however was a different story. All that
happened is that the Filter window appeared, upon which (unless I missed
it) Microsoft Works does NOT appear and so it seems that the Windows
version of OO 3.1 won't open wps documents whereas it seems that the
Linux version will!
