But what happens when OOo saves an ods file?
If the formulae are in the msoxl namespace, it should save them in the
msoxl namespace. Whether or not Excel strips out formulae in the
default namespace is up to Microsoft to decide.
OOo devs might also decide to include a "Save for Excel" option that
moves all formulae into the msolx namespace before saving, but that
should not be the default, or even selectable as the default
behaviour, but as a "save as" option as it could introduce changes in
behaviour compared to the default namespace in OOo.

Phil Hibbs.
I read/write Excel files with OOo. 99% of the time it works.
There are that 1% that I need Excel, but only when there is
some sort of complex "fill in the blank" option that will not
translate well. I have one Excel file that will display a
yearly calendar if you enter the date in the blank. The format
stays the same, with months and pictures, but it gives the
correct "stuff" for the entered year. Really complex coding.
So far this year, that is the only original Excel file that I
cannot get OOo to work with.
So, I can save as Excel or the ODF format. I sometimes do
both. Same with the presentation software.
