Which is why I said " Move down (or to any row you like) and then ..."

So, for clarity, having selected a row, move the cursor to a new row using
the down [or up] arrow *and then* hit shift/space to highlight the new row.
So this is two separate key strokes instead of Excel's one

If you like you could record a macro that moves down one row and hits
shift/space. Assign a key to this macro. Now, once any row is selected,
hitting the assigned key will automatically move the highlight down one.
