Paste special is better than doing manual column width setting,
I concur but only if it accomplishes the task.
1) copy the columns
I selected all the columns that I wanted to replicate in an empty row
(no merged cells) and used Ctrl+C to copy them.
2) select the equal nos. or 2x ,3x nos. of column,
I selected an equal number of columns where I wanted the layout to be
replicated.
3) Right click & Paste special
The right click menu did not include Paste special so I picked it out
from the Edit menu.
4) uncheck all options & check only 'format'
I did this.
5) It will paste column with along with other format(color, border,
fonts). Remove unwanted format.
It did NOT paste column widths. Since I'm down to only 39 more columns
to set, I suppose I might as well do it manually. However, for future
use in similar situations, I still want a workable solution.
For what it's worth, I am using OOo 3.0.1 on Kubuntu (Linux) though I
also use it on Windows 2000 and Windows Vista from time to time.

Subject: [users] Duplicating Column Widths in Calc
Is there a simple way to select a range of columns and then to duplicate
their widths elsewhere in a Calc document?
Here are two examples:
1) Using the widths of columns A through M on Sheet 1, duplicate the
layout
on Sheets 2, 3, ....
2) Take the widths of columns A through M on a selected sheet and
duplicate
the layout in columns N through Z, AA through AM, AN through AZ, ... on
the
same sheet.
Copy/Paste does not appear to accomplish this nor does Copy/Paste
Special.
It is tedious yet possible to set all the column widths manually via
Alt+O,
M, W.
When you pasted special with only formats checked, did you have focus on
only a single cell that you wanted to be the top left of the
copied area? Or, did you select columns to paste?
My suggestion is to select only a single cell, to be the top left corner.
The clip board memory should take care of the columns itself.
