It can read & write Microsoft Office file formats, with excellent, but not perfect compatibility. It is also available for free from www.openoffice.org, so give it a try and see how it goes. Also, given a recent court decision, Microsoft has been banned from selling Word, after Oct. 10, until patented technology that they willfully infringed has been removed.
