You would only need the = to unsubscribe if sending the unsubscribe request from [email protected] was not, for some reason, seen by the mailing list manager as being from that address. In that case, you would not be getting the unsubscribe confirmation message, but earlier it sounded as if you did receive it. Did you? If so, did you try following its instructions (which should not have included any requirement for an = in the address)? If you did receive an unsubscribe confirmation message, tried to reply to it, and got rejected by your ISP, could you explicitly quote the message and tell us exactly what you did?

As far as I know, to unsubscribe you need to send a message to the following
address:
[email protected]

You don't even have to enter any text in the Subject line or in the body.
When you send it, the engine will send you a message. Just reply to that one
(again, just reply without entering any text yourself) and then you receive
your final 'goodbye' notice.

Let us know if it works for you!
Alex.

If your webmail won't accept those symbols, then use your browser
and login to your ISP's email server and reply from there. If necessary
use cut-and-paste to get the email address into the "To:" box. Put
unsubscribe in the Subject and click send.
If that doesn't work then you must contact your ISP for help or...
use a filter to delete the incoming email, either at the ISP's server or
on your own computer.
Good luck!
