I use the Dutch locale for yyyy-mm-dd dates. If you insist that you
are entering dates in your local locale's format, then I will
experiment with a new user account and see what I can come up with.
What distro are you using? I am on Kubuntu 9.10 at the moment.

I have some users who need a different OOo default than their locales'
default. I agree that the OOo default should by default be the locale
default, but that should be configurable. Therefore the hierarchy
would be:

1) Locale default
2) OOo default (if configured)
3) Cell Formatting (if configured)

While in the general sense I understand the issue regarding document
sharing, note that it is already possible to override the date formats
for individual cells. Therefore, this part of the scheme is actually
describing current OOo behaviour.
