You are completely misinterpreting the intent. Beta's, builds and RCs are meant for those who give bug reports, contribute code, and the like. Anyone can use it but you and I, as normal users, are not the intended target. So-called stable releases is what is meant for the general public just because RCs, betas and builds can be very buggy and cause data loss and corruption. Not something a normal user should have to worry about. If you are wanting to use RCs, betas and other "non-stable" builds, that is up to you but you must assume the risk that goes along with it. The only beta software I dare use is Mozilla Firefox just because the worst it can do is destroy my bookmarks. The worst thing that an OOo (or MS Word, or AbiWord) crash can do (regardless of development status) is corrupt an important document to the point it's unrecoverable.
