There are various reasons for doing so, one of which is that last link. The others are: 1. Normal users/everyday users, whatever one wishes to call them, typically are looking to OOo to provide a stable package that has been tested and that they can rely upon for their daily use. As the above notes/warnings state, installing Beta/RC/Dev builds that have not been fully tested should be done so at your own risk. In other words, if you know the risk have at it, but be aware that by doing so your OOo documents are subject to issues. Hey, it's your data... enjoy. 2. Users (whatever the definition) that do install Beta/RC/Dev builds (and understand the risks) should understand that if they run accross an issue, this list isn't likely to be able to assist in most cases, unless of course other testers volunteer information. The latter being the case in your "What is new for 3.2.x (beta) - non-technical please" thread where folk tried to assist you with details/information. 3. When you install a Beta/RC/Dev and do find a bug/issue, then you should be aware of the reporting channels, outstanding bugs/issues already filed for those builds, and possible showstopper bugs that have been filed. You should also be prepared to file a bug against that build so that you can help the developers (many/most? of whom are unpaid volunteers) with valid details. There is no 'elite user' or 'special user' that qualifies one to install, test, report bugs, regarding OOo. Everyone is welcome, and encouraged to assist[1]. As you pointed out, it *is* open source, and everyone is welcome to contribute. If you feel that you are capable of doing so, whether by testing as a "normal user" and reporting bugs, etc., then by all means do so & I encourage you (specific) to do that. Just please also subscribe to the release list as well so that you are aware of showstoppers, issues, etc., with those builds. If however you (generic implication) are a "normal user" that just got curious, downloaded a Dev build, had your docs destroyed in the process, then perhaps you should stick to the standard releases. BTW: It's my opinion that you should drop the "I have health/heart/stroke/financial" issue sympathy posts. This is a global list with users from all over the world, from all walks of life; each who may have their own personal problems. If you wish to ask/comment about accessibility issues with OOo please do so. But quite frankly I really don't give a rats ass about your health problems, your living conditions, your financial issues, etc. I have problems of my own, as do my neighbors, friends, relatives, associates, and as do most folks on this list.
