So since the Ubuntu people do not get back to you, I thought that some of the
Linux OOo users might know the software that works with OOo.

I am looking for a Linux/Ubuntu anti-virus program that works
with OOo, Thunderbird, and other stuff like AVG did/does for my Windows
laptop.

I haven't used Ubuntu for several months now, but I recall it uses
SELinux for security. I know Fedora does, and I think several other
distros use SELinux also. It is installed by default, so you probably
already have it. The default settings are sufficient for most people,
but you can tweak the settings if you like.

Having said that, antivirus for Linux is not a critical matter. Because
permissions are universal on Linux it is not easy to get a virus to
execute automatically. Furthermore, Linux is not a big target for
script kiddies; there are very, very few Linux viruses.

Here is a page that explains it in more detail:

Like MS Office, OOo documents can contain macros, and they can be
written to do damage to your computer. But OOo always pops up a warning
when you open a file that contains macros. The key here is, just don't
run macros in documents you receive from others unless you are sure the
source can be trusted. And macros in MS Office documents will not run
on OOo. MS Office uses Visual Basic for Applications, where OOo uses
its own Basic language. While similar, the MS Office code will not
generally run on OOo.

For spam I think the top program is spamassassin. I do not use it
because my e-mail accounts do a pretty good job of screening the spam
at the server level.
The problem is when they send you one that has a nasty. You do not
see it via Linux protections, but if you pass it along - POW if it gets to
a Windows User. I am the only one of my local friends and support that
uses Linux as the default.
