Notwithstanding all the advice you've already got from here, nor that it's a 
bit offtopic, I've never bothered with av on linux other than spamassassin and 
its plugins.

However, in the Windows world I have been a big fan of Avira's personal 
edition, and I just looked and found that they have a linux/solaris version.  
Don't know what it does or how it works, but you can take a look at 
http://avira.com.  Click on Downloads and select Avira Antivir Personal.  On 
that page you'll see a reference to a personal UNIX version.
