Further poking about makes me feel silly -- copying over the files
from /old_user/config and /old_user/autotext restored almost all of
the customization properties that I was missing.
The few that that didn't bring over (so far I've noticed default
template, default view) are small enough to not be grumpy over fixing
them by hand.
