Sorta starting at Square One, aren't you, Jason....

*All* word processors offer, in the "SAVE AS" dialog, a choice of
what format to save the file in. The default value will usually be the
native file format of the particular word processor. So if you fail
to notice the choice, or just use "SAVE" instead of "SAVE AS", you
will default to attaching Open Office format files, and unless your
recipients also use Open Office, of course they won't be able to open
your files.

Likely they're still using some version of MS Word. Of course it
wouldn't be a bad idea to actually *ask* them what they're trying
to open with, *before* you send them attachments. Probably your
most widely applicable bet would be to save your files as MSWord/97/2000
.doc files, since almost any MSWord version can probably read those.

Open Office can read them, too, but naturally it doesn't work the
other way :-)

BTW when posting a request for help to a group like this one, it is
generally considered good form to mention the operating system under
which your computer is running, and what version of Open Office you're
using.
