For those who don't like return receipts:
I use Thunderbird and in the Edit menu

(tick) "Never send a return receipt" -> "Okay".
Surely other email clients have the same
options. I never see a request for a return
receipt.

The problem is that Return Receipts are useful in many circumstances so turning them off is not a solution to inconsiderate posters sender them to an email list with thousands of subscribers. Every one who receives one on an email list should reply to it. Maybe after receiving thousands of replies the sender will changer there behaviour.
