Short answer; You're wrong.
Long answer; There are moderators, but usually they simply check
messages from unsubscribed users for content, then pass them on to the
list. It is rare they moderate the list in other ways (stopping
threads, stepping in on heated discussions, etc.) but it does happen
occasionally. In the past, they've not had powers to (un)sub people,
but that may have changed, I'm not sure.
