That may be harder than it seems. I am new to Linux. I can do apt-get
install, but I need the repository and name of the program to install. From
past experience, if it's not listed in Synaptic (Debian GUI for apt-get), there
is no repository where it is located. And I suppose I'd need to uninstall
1.1.3 first. Unlike Windows, Linux packages don't generally understand the
difference between "install" and "upgrade," nor do they even look if there is
a previous version already installed. And I'll bet there are no instructions
anywhere on this subject either. :(

The 2.0 beta is listed in Synaptic. I suspect that it is sufficiently different
that I could install it alongside 1.1.3. I remember once having StarOffice
5.something installed alongside 6.something. Then 7.0 came out and I
bought the retail version, installed it, nuked the other two, and have been
using nothing but StarOffice on the Windows computer ever since.

I'm just kind of leery about beta programs. You can always tell the
pioneers. They're the ones with the arrows in their backs. :(

I tried Peter's suggestion, but will discuss that in a separate reply to his
message.

Thanks for the thoughts.
