I'm reasonably confident that it's not my fingers touching the mousepad every 
time, too, and I suspect that pressure around the mousepad can be the cause.  I 
usually rest my wrists or the balls of my thumbs on the plate near the 
mousepad, and sometimes lean a little heavily on the case.
