I'm pretty sure I've seen this discussion on every forum I've been on.
I agree that the user should do their best to solve the problem on their
own, and provide as much info as possible when posting their question
since this usually leads to the better solution. There is nothing wrong
in pointing that out. This also helps other people searching the forum
archives for solutions down the road. However, since I am no
super-user, I also know I don't have to respond to every request that is
made.

btw we should probably wrap up this thread before it turns into a
shouting match. Was the original question ever answered, I forget?

Ended as far as I'm concerned. Permanently. And no, I don't believe the original question was answered, the other sub-thread drifted off rather.

I was perhaps over-miffed that he tried to email me directly, which rather set my thoughts into unhelpful paths. It's not as if it could have gotten through - his mail server is long since consigned to the spammers' sin bin :-)

My suspicion is that the OP's backup is indeed working, but the OP hasn't realised where the files are being put. But there's no telling. I don't use the auto backup scheme; I did a quick google before replying to him because these things are useful to know about, and somewhere on oooforum, iirc, it said the backup files were stuffed somewhere inside the .openoffice user tree (or rather, the windows equivalent). Not where one might expect. IMBW. I don't propose checking; maybe someone with a more patient disposition might bother.
