Hello,

My name is Pauline Fisher. I have downloaded Open Office to my computer, on
the desktop and when I try to install it, it says it can't.

I've tried double-clicking on setup.exe, plus I've tried clicking on
install. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, and I would greatly
appreciat any help you are able to give.

Much regards,

Pauline Fisher

First, you must "un-Zip" the downloaded file. This is easily accomplished using a program like WinZip or 7-zip. You can obtain these programs from http://winzip.com or http://7-zip.com, respectively. There is also an unzipping utility built into Windows XP, but I cannot address its use as I don't use that OS.

If you're using WinZip, it is easiest to select the menu function Action > Checkout. This function expands the *.zip file and simultaneously creates and opens an installation program group. From within the program group, select the *.msi file to perform the installation in any version of Windows, or Setup.exe to install only to a version of Win9x.

When you have completed the installation, closing either the Installation program group box or the WinZip box removes the group and deletes the temporary installation files and subdirectory.
