Yup, '.exe' sorry, been away and Gimp is a rather small file. :) Enjoy!

Well I work in the high-end film/animation industry and we use
Gimp and FilmGimp quite a bit.
I use OpenOffice (NeoOffice/J) variant under OS X most of the
time, but also under Linux (Gentoo).
I was a Photoshop user from the beginning, the beginning. I have
worked for many years in concert with Adobe, but about a decade
ago I just couldn't see a reason to continue. After PDF tech
started rolling I walked away with the realization that
something better will always be available. All the really great
stuff that makes Photoshop is present in Gimp and in truth
nothing of the nonsense that is indeed unnecessary. Photoshop
4.0 was the last version you ever needed to have.
Another tremendously amazing tool for graphics is Zbrush. Not
OpenSource, but amazing tool.
That's just my view, but the cost of some software has far
outstripped it's usefulness.

Thanks Jason for the information. It sounds like GIMP is worth a
try ........
but I can't open it after downloading it. I feel like so
many of the first time users of OOo.
I have received a 19,714kb file (which, by the way, seems too
small?) for the file: <2.2.8.tar.gz>
but it is an unknown file to my XP system. Also, the information
on the GIMP homepage is for you folks who speak computer. I don't
understand a bit of it.
Does anyone know what I might do here to install this file?

For XP, look for an .exe file at http://www.gimp.org/windows/
