Anna, It depends on what you want to do.
You can change the computer's file associations so that word documents are opened with works. You can download (for free) the latest version from download.openoffice.org and get all the functionality you wanted in the first place. I would say this is your best choice (you can donate my $.02 to the Katrina charities for my opinion). That site has directions for downloading the large file on "slow" or broadband connections Given that it is off your disk now, do you happen to know which version of the beta you bought? The earliest beta version was replaced by a whole series of releases as various versions were made available to the general public. I use the latest beta (1.9.125) and have not had problems, but there is also the stable 1.1.5 version available. While the beta has more features and more Gee-Whiz, it is a beta and all that implies. Generally, the stable version is recommended for "production" work, where beta-type issues aren't acceptable.
