hi and thanks for getting back to me. i'm not sure what the problem was that
stopped me from opening the file. i had worked on a document for a few hours,
saving all the while, and then I received a notification, "system crashed".
like as in past tense, no warning. i couldn't open nor retrieve my doc using
any open office (dbase, calc, or open doc) program, nor could i open the
openoffice program itself any longer. so i looked for the uninstall program,
read up on the website, and finally figured i just had to delete program. how
simple! but it took me forever to determine that was the way i was supposed to
do it. even so, when i rebooted, all these windows came up to tell me that
there had been an error (!), to report the error (which i did), and that the
file was not recovered. i had figured that last part out by myself.

so i decided to download the "more stable" version 1.1.5 instead of the beta
version 1.1.9. the recover window popped up again and said we could try to
recover the file again. so i tried again and ... it worked! it is and was
extremely slow, though. like i might have not thought it worked but i got
distracted on a phone call and a few minutes later there it was on my screen!
but it was a few_minutes_later! so good ending to a couple day saga. but it
leaves me a bit wary now. does it normally take a long time to open docs?

ajk

What is the problem stopping you from opening your file?
Can you open calc and run the file->open command?
Is there some warning or crash?
