Michael, I gotta ask a personal question: Why on EARTH are you using Windows
if you are already an expert in UNIX? Am I safe in assuming that you have
"heard about LINUX" but have not yet tried it? For you, my friend, using
Microsoft is a lot like using sandpaper for toilet paper - you are causing
yourself unnecessary pain. Linux will DANCE for you and there is not a
single feature that you will miss from Windows - I am dead serious. I made
the jump two years ago and will NEVER go back. It's tougher for most people
- but for a UNIX expert it will be easier than upgrading to Windows Longhorn
in a couple of years (for example). And while a person like you would be
well served even if LINUX cost more than Micro$oft, you don't have to because
on LINUX, EVERYTHING IS FREE!!!!

For example, the KDE desktop environment is simply an application (free- of
course) that replaces the entire Windows world (actually, it runs over
X-windows - which I am sure you remember as old and clunky and probably
monochrome?). It runs on LINUX which you will be 98.5% familiar with. Pick
a distribution like GENTOO (made for us geeky types who need control) and you
will OWN your computer at the same time as having all of the convenience and
applications of the Micro$oft world. And more.

My clients - upon receiving their new LINUX boxes, cannot grasp what the
difference is between the "new" computer and the "old" computer (which had
Micro$oft). It is only after I don't come back to charge them for more
visits that they begin to see the difference..... it won't break and they
have no more virus-addware-spyware.

</WARNING>

(but I don't have an answer to your question ;-) )
