Thanks for the quick reply. I don't either. I thought that the tar.gz would be something like the FireFox installer's tar.gz file that lets you install stuff in the directory of your choice (I usually install under my home directory tree) but it turned out to be a bundle of RPMs. I have a very bad experience of installing RPM-based software downloaded from the Internet! But, do you know of any problems/difficulties (dependency-related problems, etc.) related to installing from the sources? I assume there is a standard configure/make/make-install procedure.
