Try Firefox Tools-> Extension->s get more Extensions. I am currently
trying the Aria download manager. It resumes nicely and does a lot of
other nice things.
If you're comfortable with command line stuff, the wget program works
nicely with versions for Windoze and Linux.

Try downloading the free web browser Opera. While I prefer Firefox,
Opera is much better for large downloads because it can resume a
download partway if you close the browser or the connection breaks.
