I'm far from being a netiquette nazi, but there have been a couple of posts I've just come across where people have replied to a thread that just has the [moderated] subject line and nothing else. Because they posted their reply at the top of the message, it was impossible to guess what was being talked about, until you scan through the original post which is quoted below the reply.
If I recall correctly, the guidelines for this list do ask that you write your reply after the quotation of the mail that you are replying to. With the big number of posts that we get with no meaningful subject it does make it helpful for people who quickly scan the contents of messages to see if they have anything useful to contribute. Usual practice on mailing lists is that it's fine to add a quick comment like "thanks" or whatever at the top, but more substantive bits should be put at the end or interspersed with the quoted bits. Also, it's a good idea to edit the email you are responding to so that only the relevant bits are included. I don't want to be pedantic or anything like that, but this is one place where established rules and guidelines actually are helpful to people reading the list. -- God bless you, Keith Bates 4 Mooloobar St Narrabri NSW 2390 Phone: 02 67924890 Fax: 02 67925418 www.new-life.org.au If you don't have a reason to live JESUS IS THE ANSWER!
