I can't explain why your recipients experience difficulties reading files you have saved in RTF format. However, if you are sending documents to people who only have MS Word, why not use the "Save As..." option and save the document in MS Word ".doc" format. Alternatively, if the recipients do not need to edit the document (ie. Read Only), then use the "Export to PDF" option. Better still, get them to install OOo (OpenOffice.org) on their computers. OOo and MS Word will happily coexist together on the same system.
