I apologise for the slightly OT nature of this query, but I wonder why this list allows non-subscribers to post -- it generates the need for a moderator, and I also wonder how those people who do not subscribe receive the potentially numerous replies to their queries.

All other (not-OOo) lists I am subscribed to are subscriber-only and they don't have this problem.

Apparently there is a major problem in the way OO handles feedback and questions, especially that coming from newbies:

"If you post mail without subscribing, you will not be able to view responses unless you check the archives of the list. The Mail List page lists archives to the most popular lists."

This is ridiculous and needs to be changed immediately. Apparently all help sent to the specifically most helpless newbies on this list never reaches them and wastes many helpers' time.

You say "All help ... never reaches them"

I hardly think so. Most helpers on this list cc the OP with their own or others' comments and don't see it as a ridiculous thing to do.
I've only been here a couple of days, but i can think of already at least 10 emails of mine and others that i'll have to forward to the original posters' addresses.

Sometimes the help received encourages the non-subscribed to subscribe. It did for me!
